Due to increase in population, the demand for food has increased much, which has taken a huge toll on environment. The depletion of natural resources was much higher due to the rising demand for food. The major cause for deforestation was the conversion of forests into agricultural land and livestock farming. The contribution of livestock rearing is much higher in the depletion of natural resources such as water, forests and clean air. The green house gas emission from livestock is the major cause for climate change in the world. At this outset this paper aimed to analyse the impact of livestock farming on environment in Indian context.
