Hospital or nosocomial infections or healthcare-related infections (ICAs) are defined as infections that arise during hospitalization, not incubating at the time of the patient's admission to hospital and which occur at least 48 hours after admission. Infections arising after the patient's discharge but causally referable to hospitalization are also considered as such and have a large-scale impact also from an economic point of view. Nosocomial infections are a serious public health problem as they represent a major cause of mortality and morbidity, and their incidence is constantly increasing. The article aims to examine the nature of compensation claims for alleged health malpractice in the context of hospital infections in Italy.
